The Walk-From-19Eleven Option: Common Grounds
If you live at 19Eleven Apartments on S 8th Street, Common Grounds is your most convenient breakfast stop. It's at 1123 S 8th St — a walkable 0.8 miles from our front gate on the same street. Hours are Monday–Friday 7am–11pm and Saturday–Sunday 8am–11pm, which works well before morning classes.
The menu isn't exclusively breakfast, but the morning lineup covers what most students need: breakfast burritos, pastries, scones, and muffins, all in the $3–8 range. You'll also get the full coffee menu while you're at it. For a grab-and-go before an 8am, it's hard to beat. Budget Breakfast Under $10
George's Restaurant is the value standard for Waco breakfast. The Speight Ave location is about 0.6 miles from campus and has been open since 1930. George's does TexMex breakfast better than almost anywhere nearby — the migas are $9.99, breakfast tacos $8.99, and a short stack of pancakes is $5.29. Our Breakfast Place on Franklin Ave (4600 Franklin Ave Suite 100) runs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday–Sunday, 7am–2pm (closed Wednesday). Portions here are generous — the Belgian waffles and loaded skillets are worth the $10–12 price. They also do seasonal specials like blueberry-lemon pancakes and pumpkin waffles that students post about constantly. It's about 2.5 miles from 19Eleven, which means a five-minute drive or an easy Uber.
Café Cappuccino has two Waco locations — one downtown at 100 N 6th St and one on Richland Drive. The downtown location opens at 6am, which makes it one of the earliest options in the city. Waco Waffle Co is family-run and has the local authenticity that chain breakfast spots lack. The Webster (their signature waffle) and the jalapeño option are the ones students reference most. Plan for a slightly longer wait on weekends.
The Toasted Yolk Cafe at 1725 Washington Ave is a step up in presentation. They use locally sourced eggs, bacon, and biscuits, make all their sauces in-house, and serve until 3pm every day. Menu items run $8–14. It's free WiFi and has a full bar if you want a mimosa with breakfast — useful when parents visit and you want somewhere that feels like more than a diner.
For Early Risers: Before the 7:30am Rush
If you have labs, early morning practices, or just prefer to eat before the lunch crowd arrives, the 6am-opening options are limited but solid.
Café Cappuccino (both locations) opens at 6am Monday–Saturday. The downtown location is 1.5 miles from 19Eleven — a short drive or a 20-minute bike ride if the weather cooperates.
Common Grounds opens at 7am on weekdays, which works for most class schedules. For anything earlier, Café Cappuccino is your only real sit-down option. Otherwise, making something quick at home and walking to Common Grounds at 7am is more realistic than chasing a 6am table on a Tuesday.
World Cup Cafe & Fair Trade Market at 1321 N 15th St opens at 7am Tuesday–Friday and 8am Saturday–Sunday (closed Monday). It's a non-profit connected to Mission Waco and has a different vibe than any other breakfast spot on this list — fair trade coffee, a good selection of breakfast plates like chicken fried steak and French toast, and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere. If you want to spend a long morning eating and studying, World Cup is worth knowing about. Prices are $7–12.
Best Study Breakfast
If you're not just eating but also working — laptop out, headphones in, three-hour reading session — the spot matters as much as the food.
Common Grounds is the standard Baylor choice for coffee-and-laptop mornings, and the food menu is good enough to stay for a few hours. It's consistent, walkable from 19Eleven, and the staff are used to students treating it as a workspace.
World Cup Cafe has a slightly quieter feel and is good for longer study sessions. The combination of a fair-trade coffee shop with a full breakfast menu in a non-corporate space tends to attract a more focused crowd than pure coffee shops.

Breakfast for Special Occasions (Parents' Visit)
When your family is in town for Family Weekend or just visiting for the day, Magnolia Table delivers. It's at 2132 S Valley Mills Dr, about three miles from campus, and runs Monday–Saturday 8am–3:30pm (closed Sunday). The price point is higher — plan for $20–30 per person — but the French toast with caramel corn flake crust and the eggs benedict are the kind of breakfast that makes parents think Waco is actually a great place to live.
Reservations are recommended, especially during Homecoming or Family Weekend. Book up to 30 days in advance through their website. Walk-ins are technically allowed but there's usually a wait.
