Baylor Football Student Tickets: How to Get Them and What to Expect

Packed college football stadium with fans cheering from the student section

If you search "baylor football tickets" expecting a simple link to a checkout page, you'll be confused. Baylor student tickets are free — but you have to claim them in advance, authenticate through Duo, and know which section you're in. First-year students also get access to one of the most distinctive traditions in college football. Here's everything you need to know before your first home game.

The Basics: Free Tickets, Two Sections, One Portal

Baylor expanded its student ticket allocation to over 11,000 seats for the 2026 season — a 20% increase from prior years. Those tickets are free for enrolled students, but they don't appear in your account automatically. You claim them each week through the Student Gameday portal at studentgameday.web.baylor.edu.

McLane Stadium holds 45,000 fans. Your fellow students occupy two separate sections:

  • Baylor Line — for first-year students and transfers only (approximately 3,000 seats), located behind the visitor's bench at field level
  • General Admission student section — for all students (approximately 6,700+ seats), in the stands above the Baylor Line

Both sections are standing sections. The Baylor Line is louder because of what happens before kickoff — more on that below.

How to Claim Your Student Ticket: Step by Step

The process takes about two minutes once you've done it once:

  1. Go to studentgameday.web.baylor.edu
  2. Click Sign In As Student
  3. Authenticate with Duo (same two-factor system you use for Canvas and other Baylor apps)
  4. Find the upcoming home game and click Reserve
  5. Show up with your mobile ticket and Baylor ID — both are checked at the student section gate

Tickets open 5 days before each home game. If demand is high for a rivalry matchup, don't wait. The Athletic Ticket Office can help if you have account issues: 254-710-1000.

The restriction rule: If you reserve a ticket and don't show up, Baylor places you on the restricted list. Restricted students can only reserve tickets 4 days before the next game instead of 5 — meaning you lose first access when seats are tightest. Only claim a ticket for games you actually plan to attend.

The Baylor Line: Everything First-Year Students Need to Know

The Baylor Line has been a part of home football since 1970 — and it's something no other Big 12 program does. Here's how it works:

Before each home game, first-year students wearing gold Baylor Line jerseys gather at the south end of McLane Stadium. Just before kickoff, the Line rushes onto the field and forms a human tunnel to welcome the football team as they run out. After the run-on, members take their seats in the exclusive Baylor Line section behind the visitor's bench.

A few things to know if you're a first-year student:

  • Arrive early. The Baylor Line section fills on a first-come, first-served basis. For the first home game of the 2025 season, the Class of 2029 reached capacity before kickoff. If you want front-row positioning for the run-on, plan to arrive 90 minutes early.
  • Wear your gold Baylor Line jersey. These are distributed through the Student Gameday program at the start of the year. You'll need it for the run-on.
  • No opposing team gear. This applies to all student sections and is enforced.
  • Once you're a sophomore, you move up. You'll join the General Admission student section, which sits above the Baylor Line with a broader view of the field.

The Baylor Line originally started as a men's organization; the parallel Baylor Sideline was created for women in 1971. Today, both first-year students and incoming transfers participate together.

What to Bring (and What to Leave at Home)

Bring:

  • Baylor ID (required for student section entry — not optional)
  • Mobile ticket from the Student Gameday portal
  • Factory-sealed water bottle
  • Sunscreen — Baylor's September home games are afternoon kickoffs in Texas heat
  • Light layers for evening games in October and November

Bag policy: No bags larger than 12" × 12" × 6" unless they're completely clear. Small clutch-style purses (4.5" × 6.5" or smaller) are the exception. This is a standard NCAA policy, not a Baylor-specific rule — plan before you leave the apartment.

Leave at home: opposing team gear, outside food or drinks (factory-sealed water is the exception), and large opaque bags over the size limit.

Getting to McLane Stadium from 19Eleven

If you live at 19Eleven on S 8th Street, McLane Stadium is 0.7 miles away — about a 15-minute walk through Baylor's south campus path. That's not a metaphor or a rough estimate. The south campus path runs from S 8th Street directly through Baylor's campus toward the stadium along the Brazos River.

Recommended timeline on game day:

  • Leave 19Eleven 75 minutes before kickoff
  • Walk the south campus path to the McLane student section gate
  • This gives you enough time to queue, get through ID check, and find your spot before the Baylor Line run-on

For students who drive: commuter parking near McLane fills several hours before kickoff, and game-day parking permits run $25–$75 per game. After the final whistle, expect at least 30–45 minutes of traffic to clear the area. 19Eleven residents walk both ways, skip the permit cost, and are back at the apartment before commuters have even left their parking spot.

The full 2026 home schedule runs six games, including a Family Weekend matchup against Louisiana Tech on September 19. That one in particular draws a lot of families to campus — having your own space nearby makes coordinating easier.

What a Typical Game Day Looks Like

Before kickoff: Many students grab food on Franklin Ave or near campus before heading over. Common Grounds and Shorty's Pizza are both close to the south campus path. If you want to watch the Bear Walk — when the team bus arrives and players walk through a crowd of fans to the stadium entrance — position near the north side of McLane about 90 minutes before kickoff.

The Baylor Line run-on: If you're in the Baylor Line section, you're at field level for this. It's a 55-year tradition. The rush onto the field, the formation of the human tunnel, the team running through — it happens fast, but it's the defining moment of every home opener. Students who skip it as freshmen often regret it.

During the game: Standing sections, coordinated chants, a lot of noise for Big 12 matchups. Baylor's conference games — especially TCU and Texas Tech — generate the loudest student sections.

Post-game from 19Eleven: The 15-minute walk home feels short after a win. The south campus path is well-lit and heavily trafficked immediately after games.

A Quick Note on Other Baylor Sports

The Student Gameday portal is also where you reserve basketball tickets for Foster Pavilion — the new 7,500-seat arena that opened in 2024. Basketball season runs November through March, so there's minimal overlap with football. The same portal, same Duo authentication, same reservation system.

For everything else about getting to Baylor from 19Eleven — including shuttle routes, parking permit details, and the bike path — the Baylor transportation guide covers the full picture. The south campus walking guide maps every destination from S 8th Street with timing.

Game Day Without the Commute Headache

Living 0.7 miles from McLane Stadium is the kind of thing that sounds small until you're a junior watching friends spend $50 on parking and 45 minutes of post-game traffic every home game. Six home games a year. Multiply that out.

If you're evaluating apartments near Baylor and game day experience matters to you, check our floor plans or schedule a tour to walk the south campus path yourself. The neighborhood page has more on what's within walking distance of S 8th Street.
