Dog Grooming in Waco: A Baylor Student's Guide to Pet Groomers Near Campus
Regular grooming is one of those things that sneaks up on you as a first-time pet owner in college. Your dog needs a bath, a nail trim, or a full haircut — and suddenly you're asking around campus about where to go. If you're living near Baylor with a dog, here's a practical breakdown of the best dog grooming options in Waco, from salon appointments to mobile groomers that come directly to your parking lot.
Why Grooming Matters More When You're a Student
Most dogs need professional grooming every 4–8 weeks, depending on breed and coat type. Short-haired dogs can stretch it a bit longer. Double-coated or curly-coated breeds — doodles, poodles, spaniels — need regular trims to prevent matting. Skip too many appointments and you're looking at a pricier deshedding treatment or a full shave-down.
The challenge for college students is logistics. You might not have a car, your schedule changes constantly, and finding a groomer you trust takes time. Knowing your options upfront saves stress — and potentially money if you catch first-time discounts or find a walk-in that fits your schedule.
19Eleven's bark park keeps your dog exercised daily, but regular grooming is what keeps their coat, ears, and nails in good shape between vet visits.
Dog Groomers in Waco: Your 5 Best Options
1. Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming
Address: 1201 Hewitt Drive, Suite 205, Waco, TX 76712
Phone: (254) 666-9663
Hours: Monday–Saturday, 9am–6pm
Website: woofgangbakery.com
Woof Gang ranks first in local search for "dog grooming waco tx" for good reason. They offer both a full grooming menu and a pet bakery in the same location. Services include mini grooms — bath, styling, nail trim, ear cleaning, sanitary and face trims — and full grooms with luxury bath, hand drying, and full body styling. Advance appointments are strongly recommended.
The Hewitt Drive location is about 5–6 miles from 19Eleven, so you'll need a car or rideshare. Call for current pricing, as rates vary by breed and coat condition.
Best for: Students who want a boutique grooming experience and have reliable transportation.
2. Wags Pet Spa & Mobile Grooming
Address: 203 Colonnade Pkwy, Suite A, Woodway, TX 76712
Phone: (254) 488-4927
Hours: Monday–Saturday, 8am–5pm
Website: wagstx.com
Wags offers both salon grooming and mobile grooming throughout McLennan County. Mobile service means the groomer comes to your location — your parking spot, your schedule. For students at 19Eleven who don't have a car, this is a genuinely practical option.
Prices are on the higher end: Premium Bath starts at $120–$220 depending on your dog's size; Premium Groom runs $140–$250. All services are appointment-based with online booking available. If convenience is your priority over price, Wags mobile grooming is worth considering.
Best for: Students without a car who want full professional grooming with zero transportation required.
3. Scenthound Waco
Address: 5301 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX 76710
Phone: (254) 770-0565
Hours: Monday–Saturday, 8am–5pm
Website: scenthound.com/waco
Scenthound operates on a membership model built around monthly hygiene maintenance: ears, nails, teeth, coat, and glands checked on a consistent 4-week schedule. Memberships start around $25–$40/month for basic service, and new clients typically get a trial special before committing. Members get 25% off additional à la carte services.
The recurring membership model works well for students who want predictable grooming costs. If your dog needs a bath and nail trim every 4 weeks, a monthly membership beats paying full price each visit. Appointments required — no walk-ins. Scenthound is about 3 miles from 19Eleven on S 8th Street, making it one of the closer salon options to campus.
Best for: Students with dogs that need consistent monthly upkeep on a student budget.
4. PetSmart Grooming
Address: 4600 Franklin Ave, Waco, TX 76710
Phone: (254) 741-6847
Hours: Monday–Saturday 9am–9pm, Sunday 10am–7pm
Website: stores.petsmart.com
PetSmart has the most flexible schedule of any grooming option in Waco — 7 days a week with evening slots that work around an irregular class schedule. Full grooming runs $40–$70 depending on size; bath and brush is $25–$45; nail trim alone is $10–$15. First-time grooms come with $20 off when you prepay online.
Basic services like nail trims and bath & brush are available as walk-ins. For full grooms, booking ahead is recommended. Franklin Ave puts PetSmart about 2–3 miles from 19Eleven on S 8th Street.
Best for: Students who need evening or weekend flexibility, or want a first-time discount on a full groom.
5. BubbaTanks Mobile Grooming
Phone: (254) 749-7292
Website: wacogrooming.com
BubbaTanks is a mobile-only operation rated 5.0 stars by their clients. The groomer drives a fully equipped van directly to your location — your parking space, your schedule, no trip required. Prices run $85–$205+ depending on service and dog size. Appointment-only; book by calling or texting.
Mobile grooming costs more than salon options, but for students at 19Eleven without a car, the math often works out: no Uber, no waiting, no time lost. Groomers bring 15+ years of experience, and the one-on-one setup works especially well for larger or anxious dogs who do better outside of a busy salon environment.
Best for: Students without a car, or those with large or anxious dogs who need a calmer grooming experience.

Grooming Tips for Baylor Students
Book early in the semester. Most Waco groomers fill weekend slots fast. Schedule your first appointment during the first week of classes so you have a reliable slot before your dog's coat gets out of hand.
Mobile grooming math. Mobile groomers charge $15–$30 more per visit than salons, but you're saving an Uber ride plus an hour of time. For students without a car living near campus, the premium often makes sense.
Nail trims between full grooms. PetSmart accepts walk-ins for nail trims at $10–$15. Getting nails done every 3–4 weeks between full grooms is cheaper than waiting and paying for a longer appointment.
Ask about first-time specials. PetSmart's $20 off first groom is advertised online. Other groomers may have promotions not listed publicly — worth asking when you call to schedule.
Matting adds cost. Consistent 4–8 week grooming is almost always cheaper than waiting months and paying for a deshedding treatment or a shave-down to clear heavy matting.
