Baylor Spring Break 2027: What Students Actually Do (Stay, Go Home, or Get Away)

Students enjoying an outdoor adventure trip during spring break

Spring break at Baylor comes with one decision that somehow gets harder every year: stay in Waco, head home, or finally take that trip? For most students, it's a mix of all three — and the choice depends more on your lease situation and budget than you might expect.

If you're living at 19Eleven on S 8th Street, you have more flexibility than you think. A 12-month lease means your apartment is yours the entire break — no storage runs, no frantic moving, just one less thing to coordinate. Here's how Baylor students actually spend spring break, broken down by what's worth doing if you stay, where to go for a day trip, and how to leave cleanly if you're heading home.

When Is Baylor Spring Break 2027?

Baylor Spring Break 2027 is scheduled for March 6–13, 2027 — a full week between regular classes. The official dates are published on the Baylor Academic Calendar, which also shows finals schedules and holiday breaks. Worth bookmarking now.

The timing is actually some of the best weather Waco gets all year: average highs around 68°F, lows in the mid-to-upper 40s, and none of the humidity that hits by May. If you've been putting off outdoor plans during the semester, this is the week to act on them.

Option 1: Stay in Waco

Waco during spring break is noticeably different from Waco during the semester. Student crowds thin out, restaurant lines shorten, and the city is actually worth exploring when you're not rushing between classes. Students who stay often say it's the first time Waco felt like home rather than a campus backdrop.

Cameron Park Trails

If you do one thing this spring break, make it Cameron Park. The 400-acre park sits along the Brazos River with 26+ miles of trails — everything from flat riverside paths to steep bluff climbs with views that don't look anything like central Texas. The Lovers Leap overlook, where the Bosque and Brazos rivers meet, is the best free viewpoint in Waco.

Trails are open daily 6am–midnight, free to enter, and dogs are welcome on leash. From 19Eleven, it's about a 10-minute drive. Grab coffee from Common Grounds first and you've got a full morning.

Magnolia Market at the Silos

Spring break is one of the few times Magnolia Market is manageable. Without peak weekend tourist traffic, you can actually browse the Silos grounds, try a cupcake from Anchor Bakery ($4–6 each), and sit outside at the Silos Market without competing for space.

From 19Eleven on S 8th Street, the Silos are about 1.5 miles away — 7 minutes by car or about 30 minutes on foot. Hours: Monday–Saturday 9am–6pm, Sunday 11am–6pm. The grounds themselves are free to enter; you only pay for what you buy.

The Waco Riverwalk and Brazos River

The 7-mile Waco Riverwalk runs along both banks of the Brazos River from the Baylor campus to Cameron Park. March weather is ideal for a long walk or run — the trail is paved, well-lit, and free. The 1870 Suspension Bridge at the downtown section is worth a stop, especially in the morning before crowds arrive.

For kayaking, Pura Vida Paddle and Waco Paddle Company both offer rentals on the Brazos. The Bosque Bluffs Paddling Trail (2.2-mile loop) and Brazos Bridges Paddling Trail (4.8-mile loop) are the primary routes. Check their schedules in early March — hours can vary at the start of the outdoor season.

Waco Restaurants Without the Wait

Spring break is a practical opportunity to eat at places that normally require more planning. Milo All Day is worth a brunch reservation. Harvest on 25th does a farm-to-table dinner menu that holds up to anything Austin has. If you haven't been to Brotherwell Brewing on a Tuesday for trivia night, a slower week is the right time.

Fabled Bookshop & Cafe and Common Grounds are worth a weekday morning when the semester crowd isn't there. Both are within a few minutes of campus.

Option 2: Day Trips and Weekend Getaways

Waco's location along I-35 is genuinely underrated for road trips. You're equidistant from Austin and Dallas — two cities that can fill a full weekend — and the Hill Country is well within reach.

Austin (1.5 hours south): Barton Springs, South Congress, 6th Street, and some of the best breakfast tacos anywhere. Easily worth a full day or an overnight.

San Antonio (3 hours south): The Riverwalk, the Mission Trail, and enough food options to fill several meals. Better as a two-night trip than a day trip.

Enchanted Rock (2.5 hours southwest): A massive pink granite dome in the Hill Country that rewards the hike with 360-degree views. Timed-entry reservations go through Texas State Parks — book early at tpwd.texas.gov since slots fill up fast.

Hamilton Pool Preserve (2 hours south): A limestone swimming hole with a natural waterfall, protected inside a nature preserve. Reservation-only through Travis County Parks; limited capacity so plan ahead.

Dallas (1.5 hours north): Deep Ellum for live music, the Perot Museum for a rainy afternoon, or Klyde Warren Park when the weather cooperates.

Budget tip: even a two-person carpool cuts gas costs nearly in half. A four-person trip to Austin splits to about $12–15 per person each way.

Option 3: Going Home — Leave Smart

If you're heading home for the week, the apartment takes about 10 minutes to secure before you leave. The basics:

  • Set the thermostat to 78°F or higher. Texas can spike in late March; running AC at a modest setting prevents humidity buildup and keeps your electric bill reasonable.
  • Unplug non-essential electronics. TVs, gaming setups, and plugged-in chargers draw standby power and are the most common cause of unnecessary charges.
  • Check all windows and sliding doors. Lock and physically test each one — not just turn the lock.
  • Clear the trash and run the dishwasher before leaving. A week is long enough for trash or leftover dishes to become a problem.
  • Let a neighbor know you're away. Not required, but helpful if you want someone to grab a package or check on anything.

At 19Eleven, your apartment is yours on a 12-month lease — there's no formal "check-out" process for spring break the way dorms require. Gated community access stays in place throughout the break, and management is reachable if anything comes up while you're away.

What 12-Month Renters Skip Entirely

Spring break is where the difference between a 12-month lease and a semester-to-semester arrangement becomes concrete. Students in dorms or 9-month leases face decisions about storage, break housing coverage, or whether their lease technically covers the week at all.

If you're at 19Eleven, none of that applies. Your apartment is yours for the full month of March — whether you stay the whole week, leave for a few days, or take a road trip on day one. The amenities, including the indoor pool and study rooms, are available to residents throughout break. And when you come back, your stuff is exactly where you left it.

That's the practical case for a 12-month lease near campus: your housing decision in October shouldn't require another round of planning in February.

Make the Most of It

Baylor Spring Break 2027 is a full week with better weather than most students expect. Whether you're spending it hiking the Brazos bluffs, driving to the Hill Country, or just catching up on sleep in a city that's quieter than usual, the logistics are simpler when your apartment is waiting for you either way.

If you're still figuring out where you'll live for the 2027–2028 year, spring break is actually an ideal time to schedule a tour — fewer people on the calendar, easier to ask questions without feeling rushed. Check the floor plans to see what's available and what fits your budget before the fall leasing rush begins.
