Baylor Game Day Guide: Where to Eat, Park, and Tailgate Near McLane Stadium

College football stadium filled with fans on game day

If you've never experienced a Baylor football Saturday in Waco, you're in for something special. McLane Stadium sits right on the Brazos River, the Bear Walk is back on its original route for the first time since 2018, and a brand-new tailgating setup means better food, live music, and lower prices than ever before. Whether you're a first-year student or a returning senior, this is your complete guide to making the most of every home game in 2026.

2026 Home Schedule at McLane Stadium

Baylor hosts six games at McLane Stadium this fall. Mark your calendar:

  • September 12 — Prairie View A&M (Home Opener, 7 PM)
  • September 19 — Louisiana Tech (Family Weekend)
  • September 26 — Colorado (first visit to Waco since 2007)
  • October 17 — TCU
  • November 7 — Iowa State (Homecoming)
  • November 21 — Texas Tech (Regular Season Finale)

The Colorado game on September 26 is the one to circle. It's their first trip to Waco in nearly two decades, and Big 12 matchups like this one tend to draw huge crowds. The Homecoming game against Iowa State on November 7 is another can't-miss — expect a packed stadium and campus-wide events all week.

The Bear Walk Is Back on Its Original Route

One of the biggest game day traditions is returning in a big way. The Bear Walk — where players walk through a corridor of fans on their way into the stadium — is back on its original route for the first time since 2018. It kicks off two hours before every home game.

Line up early along the route to get a good spot. This is one of those traditions that makes Baylor game days feel different from other schools, and the energy is contagious. If you're bringing parents or friends who've never been, the Bear Walk alone is worth showing up early for.

Where to Tailgate

Touchdown Alley

Touchdown Alley is the free, family-friendly tailgate zone on the southeast side of McLane Stadium, set up on the old Floyd Casey turf. It opens three hours before kickoff and closes 30 minutes before the game starts. You don't need a ticket to hang out here — just show up. Baylor partners set up food and drink stations throughout the area, so bring cash.

Baylor Backyard

New for 2026, Baylor Athletics is bringing tailgating operations in-house with Baylor Backyard — a revamped tailgate experience with lower pricing, Baylor-themed add-ons, and a more personalized setup. Reservations open June 1, 2026, so plan ahead if you want a dedicated spot.

Fans who've held a tailgate at McLane since its 2014 opening and maintain their season-long package through every 2026 home game will receive a full refund of their base spot rental at the end of the season. That's a serious loyalty perk.

Baylor Backyard Live

Here's something completely new: a free pre-game concert series at every home game. Baylor Backyard Live features local artists and cover bands, starting about an hour and 45 minutes before kickoff. It's free for everyone — you don't need a game ticket or a tailgate reservation. Show up, grab some food, and enjoy the music while the energy builds.

Where to Park

Parking fills up fast on game days. Here are your best options:

  • Stadium Lots 1-4, Gold Lot, and Ferrell Center — prepaid or assigned lots. If you have a season parking pass, you're set.
  • Brazos Parking (across from McLane Stadium) — paid lots between Seventh Street and Orchard Lane. This is also the spot if you want to enjoy a drink before the game, since alcohol isn't sold or allowed on campus.
  • Free downtown parking + shuttle — Park for free in downtown Waco and take the complimentary shuttle to McLane Stadium. The Texas Ranger Museum lot is also reserved for home games. This is the move if you want to avoid traffic and save money.

Pro tip: Download the Waze app before game day. Baylor recommends it for navigating road closures around the stadium.

If you live at 19Eleven, you have an even better option: walk. At 1911 S 8th Street, you're close enough to McLane Stadium that parking isn't even a concern. Skip the traffic, skip the lot fees, and just enjoy the walk over with your roommates.

Where to Eat on Game Day

Before the Game

  • Vitek's BBQ — A Waco institution since 1915. Order the Gut Pack (a legendary pile of sausage, Fritos, cheese, beans, and onions created by a Baylor student in the 1980s). It's been featured in The New York Times and Texas Monthly. Expect a line on game days — it's worth it.
  • Common Grounds — The coffee shop Baylor students have claimed since 1994. Grab a Cowboy Coffee (their secret spiced blend) before heading to the stadium. Located at 1123 S 8th Street — practically next door if you live at 19Eleven.
  • Pivovar Czech Restaurant & Brewery — Next to Magnolia Market, serving fried pork schnitzel, short rib goulash, and solid burgers alongside house-brewed Czech lagers.

After the Game

  • Brazos Landing — The closest restaurant to McLane Stadium with patio seating overlooking the Brazos River. Great for a post-game meal with sunset views.
  • Harvest on 25th — About a five-minute drive from campus, with seasonal, farm-to-table dishes. A good pick if you want something a little more upscale after a win.

Stadium Essentials: What to Know Before You Go

Gates open about 90 minutes before kickoff. Here's the quick rundown:

  • Clear bag policy — Only clear bags (12" x 6" x 12" or smaller) or small clutch purses (4.5" x 6.5") are allowed inside McLane Stadium.
  • No alcohol on campus or in the stadium. Pre-game at Brazos Parking if that's your thing.
  • Mobile tickets — Have your tickets loaded on your phone before you arrive. Cellular service can be spotty with 40,000+ fans in one area.
  • Water — You can bring one sealed, clear water bottle per person into the stadium. September games in Waco are hot — stay hydrated.

The 19Eleven Game Day Advantage

Living at 19Eleven puts you in the best possible position for game day. Here's why:

  • Walking distance to McLane Stadium — No parking pass, no shuttle, no rideshare surge pricing. Just walk over with your friends.
  • Pre-game at the sports court or pool — Warm up the competitive spirit before kickoff. The indoor pool is open year-round, and the sports court is perfect for a quick pick-up game.
  • Post-game hangout — Head back to the community spaces to decompress. The coffee bar, study rooms, and common areas mean you don't have to fight traffic to get somewhere comfortable.
  • Host visiting friends and family — With 1-4 bedroom floor plans, you've got room for guests on big game weekends like Family Weekend (Sept 19) and Homecoming (Nov 7).
